California
Lightning Sprint Car Series Closes 2026 Season
Saturday at the Ventura Raceway
Torrance, CA — October 21, 2026 — The
California Lightning Sprint Car Series presented
by Motor City Buick/GMC will wrap up its 32nd
season this Saturday night, October 24th, at the
Ventura Raceway. The race that was canceled last
week due to a power failure at the track will not
be made up.
“After the unfortunate
cancellation of the Ventura Raceway events this
past weekend, every effort was made to find a
suitable replacement date to complete the season,”
CLS president Jon Robertson said. “Unfortunately,
no workable reschedule could be secured. That
means this Saturday night will officially be the
final race of the 2026 California Lightning
Sprints presented by Motor City GMC championship
season! One night. One final opportunity. One last
chance to make a statement before the championship
is decided.”
Jeff Dyer, a California
Highway Patrol officer from Yucca Valley,
California, has a 43-point advantage over talented
teenager Tyler Warner of Alpine, California. With
a series-leading three victories this season, Dyer
has combined winning speed with consistency.
Before the most recent three races, he had
finished outside the top 10 only once. Two of
those last three outings, however, put a dent in
his championship cushion. He finished 11th at
Ventura and 10th at Bakersfield, where a crash cut
his night short. Just 24 hours after the
Bakersfield setback, he bounced back with a
third-place finish at Ventura four weeks ago.
If Dyer ends on top of the point heap after
the final checkered flag on Saturday, the trophy
will look nice sitting on the mantlepiece
alongside his 2023 POWRi Southwest Lightning
Sprint Car Series championship trophy.
Warner, a high school football player from Alpine,
California, has kept the pressure on the veteran.
His runner-up finish at Ventura at the end of
August took a sizable bite out of Dyer’s lead. He
then finished eighth at Bakersfield on September
25, two positions ahead of the point leader,
before adding a fourth-place finish the following
night at Ventura. Now, the rookie heads into the
finale with the championship within his reach.
While the Dyer-Warner title chase commands the
spotlight, the battle for third is even tighter.
Camarillo’s Cody Nigh and Torrance’s “Rockstar”
Jon Robertson hold third and fourth, respectively,
with just 25 points separating the veterans. Nigh,
who won the series’ first 2026 Ventura appearance
in March, will be looking to return to victory
lane while keeping Robertson in his rearview
mirror on Saturday.
Rookie Liam Coffey
holds fifth in the standings, followed by four
accomplished veterans with a boatload of
championships. Defending CLS champion Aiden Lange
sits sixth, while seven-time series champion and
CLS G.O.A.T. Bobby Michnowicz occupies seventh.
Brent Sexton, whose résumé includes two CLS
championships and a title with the now-defunct
POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprints, is eighth. 2025
SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series champion Peter
Benker ranks ninth, with his teenage son, Cody,
rounding out the top 10.
Sharing the bill
with the CLS on Saturday’s program will be the VRA
Sprints, Senior Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA
Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, and a Demolition Derby.
Spectator gates will open at 3:00 p.m., with
racing scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Adult
tickets are $18.00. Seniors (60+), military
personnel with ID, and students with ID are
$15.00. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
