Aiden Lange
Strikes Again for Third Straight CLS Main Event
Victory Torrance, CA — July 28, 2025 —
About the only thing hotter than the
scorching weather blanketing the Midwest and East
Coast is California Lightning Sprint Car Series
star Aiden Lange. On Saturday night at Santa Maria
Speedway, the 23-year-old racer led all 20 laps of
the Motor City Buick/GMC CLS vs. Bay Cities Racing
Association (BCRA) Civil War Challenge Series
feature to earn his third consecutive main event
victory.

third in a row last Saturday night. CLS photo.
The night began with teenage standout Braydin
Collie of El Cajon earning his first-ever Diablo
Fabrication Fast Time Award with a sizzling 13.636
lap. He edged out BCRA veteran Greg Dennett by a
razor-thin 0.001-second margin. BCRA drivers Matt
Land of Elk Grove (13.669) and Hunter Kinney of
Citrus Heights (13.764) followed, with CLS points
leader Eric Greco of Palmdale rounding out the top
five with a 13.799.
In heat race action,
Jason Schostag of Hangtown captured the Racing
Junk First Heat over Greco and Land. Lange came
from the second row to win Extreme Muffler Heat
Race #2 over Bakersfield resident Leland Day and
Kinney.
For the 20-lap Civil War main
event, Kinney sat on the pole, with Greco to his
outside. Lange, who has only finished worse than
second one time in five CLS main starts this
season, started inside row two alongside Land. The
third row featured rookie point leader Drake
Cardey and Dennett, with Schostag and Day filling
row four.
Trouble struck before the race
reached the initial green flag. Coming off turn
four, pole sitter Kinney experienced mechanical
issues and pulled towards the infield. The pack
swept wide to avoid him. “Rockstar” Jon Robertson
got jammed to the outside, clipped the wall, and
flipped before reaching the start line. Though
uninjured, both he and Kinney were done for the
night.
With Kinney out, Lange inherited the
pole and wasted no time asserting himself.

Kawasaki ZX10, he immediately opened up a lead
that continued to grow with each lap.
Behind him, the action heated up as Cardey
challenged Land for third. After trying the inside
early, the young driver switched to the outside
and made the pass on lap six. Cardey then tracked
down and slid past Greco for second on lap 11,
just before a yellow came out for Bradley Schmitz
(Placerville), who stopped in turn two.
With the field bunched up, Lange again powered
away on the restart, and Cardey likewise distanced
himself from Greco. The top three appeared locked
in until the final lap. As Lange sliced through
lapped traffic, Cardey attempted an aggressive
move in turn one but made contact with a slower
car, spinning to a stop and bringing out another
yellow. Frustrated, Cardey slapped his helmet
while awaiting a push.
The restart set up a
one-lap dash to the checkers, but Lange removed
all doubt by rocketing away to seal his third
straight CLS victory. Greco finished second,
followed by Land, Legend in fourth, and Dennett
fifth.
After starting 11th, Collie charged
to sixth, earning both the Eibach Springs and
SpeedMart Hard Charger Awards.
Since
switching from a blown 2017 Kawasaki engine to a
2023 model after a June 7 incident at Bakersfield,
Lange has been unbeatable, racking up three
straight wins. Still, he trails Greco by 77 points
in the CLS standings heading into the August 22–23
doubleheader at Plaza Park in Visalia and Lemoore
Raceway.
Greco also maintains the lead in
the Civil War Series standings heading into the
final two rounds at Bakersfield and Merced on
September 12–13. Dennett and Land sit second and
third, with CLS regular Legend and BCRA’s Kinney
rounding out the top five.
In the Rookie of
the Year chase, Cardey holds a slim seven-point
edge over Collie, who continues to impress with
each outing.
