CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINTS WESTERN STATES CHAMPIONSHIP POSTPONED TO WEDNESDAY (Torrance, CA, November 25, 2024) Due to persistent rain on Monday and more scheduled for Tuesday, the California Lightning Sprint Car Series sanctioned 8th Annual Western States Lightning Sprint Car Championship at the Bakersfield Speedway has been postponed until Wednesday, November 27th. Gates for the open wheel doubleheader show that also features the USAC NOS Energy Midget National Champion Series will open at 4:00 p.m. with cars on the track at 5:00. Coming into the final CLS race of the season, which is being sponsored by R&R Racing and T-Shirts By Timeless, six-time series champion Bobby Michnowicz has a 103-point lead over Palmdale’s Eric Greco in the championship chase. In addition to his CLS prowess, Michnowicz has run roughshod over the competition in the first seven editions of the Western States Lightning Sprint Car Championship, winning four times and finishing second twice. Sitting behind Michnowicz and Greco in third in the CLS standings going into Wednesday’s season finale is California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Dyer of Yucca Valley. Cody Nigh of Camarillo and “Rockstar” Jon Robertson of Torrance are tied for fourth. Upcoming teens Zate Legend of Riverside, and Dyer’s son, Seth, are sixth and seventh in the standings and are separated by a mere 10 points. Fillmore’s Connor Speir, Clay Byers of Castaic, and Bakersfield local Leland Day round out the top 10. Adult general admission tickets are $25.00. For kids 6-12, general admission tickets are $15.00. For children 5 and under, general admission tickets are free. For seniors 65+ and military (ID required), general admission tickets are $22.00. The track is located at 5001 N.
