TWO MAIN EVENTS FOR LIGHTNING SPRINTS SATURDAY AT
VENTURA
(Torrance, CA, April 24, 2022)
Fans of the California Lightning Sprint Car Series
will get more bang for their racing bucks this
Saturday night, April 30th, at the Ventura
Raceway. Instead of one 25-lap CLS main event,
they will be treated to two. The double main event
is necessitated due to Mother Nature unleashing
her wrath and drenching the ocean side oval on
March 19th.

CLS point leader Eric Greco
The March
rainout came after the CLS completed its
qualifying and heat races at the season opener.
Therefore the main event for the night was set.
When it became apparent that Mother Nature refused
to co-operate and did not stop the rain, CLS and
track officials were left with nothing to do but
postpone the main event till this week’s show.
Only drivers who were there for that first night
are eligible for the makeup main event. The lineup
for the 25-lapper is as follows
Row 1:
David Gasper, Santa Barbara – Jeff Dyer, Yucca
Valley Row 2: Eric Greco, Palmdale – Dominic
Del Monte, Gardena Row 3: Aiden Lange, Lakewood
– Cody Nigh, Camarillo Row 4: Bobby Michnowicz,
Oak Hills – Jon Robertson, Torrance Row 5: Pat
Kelley, Chino – Brent Owens – Rancho Cucamonga
Row 6: Will Browne, Glendora – Connor Spier –
Fillmore
The full regular show will feature
qualifying, heats, and another main event. All
drivers will be eligible for the second main.
The year has gotten off to a competitive start
for the CLS with three different winners in the
first three races of 2022. Lakeside’s Grant Sexton
drew first blood when he won the main before a
packed house at the Bakersfield Speedway on March
25th. One week later, 16-year-old defending CLS
champion David Gasper of Santa Barbara swept the
show by setting fast time, winning his heat and
the main event in the “Wayne Albright Memorial” at
the Merced Speedway. Two weeks ago, San Diego’s
A.J. Bender scored a convincing win in round three
at Bakersfield.
Going into Saturday’s
race, Palmdale’s Eric Greco holds a 20-point
advantage over Cody Nigh of Camarillo in the
championship standings. Rookie Will Browne of
Glendora is currently third. Gasper is fourth, and
Yucca Valley’s Jeff Dyer is fifth.
In
addition to the CLS, the VRA Sprint Cars, Senior
Sprints, Dwarf Cars, WMR Midgets, and NMRA TQ
Midgets will also be on the program. Adult tickets
are $18.00. Seniors 60 & over, military with id,
and students with id get in for $15.00. Children
12 and under, who are accompanied by an adult, are
free. Spectator gates will open at 3:00 p.m. and
the first race will be at 5:30.
For fans
who would like to attend Saturday’s show at
Ventura, The track is located on the Ventura
County Fairgrounds at 10 W. Harbor Boulevard
(93001). The website is http://venturaraceway.com/

Following Saturday’s race at Ventura, the CLS
will return to action when it joins the USAC/CRA
Sprint Car Series at the Bakersfield Speedway on
May 14th.
